Ending hunger in Gadab Hasaasa
We’re a group of Oromo women passionate about ending hunger in the Gadab Hasaasa region of Oromia, Ethiopia.
GHWRA’s mission is to support food security and the growth of sustainable food systems in the region. We envision a (near) future in Gadab Hasaasa where everyone has dignified access to food.
This Ramadan, give the gift of food.
Food scarcity is on the rise. In Ethiopia, the price of food and produce in Ethiopia has skyrocketed, further jeopardizing food access for the most vulnerable populations of Gadab Hasaasa. Please consider making a donation to support our efforts this Ramadan, as we work to distribute Emergency Food Hampers to over 2000 families in Hasaasa and the surrounding villages.
We simply cannot do this work without your help. Every birr and dollar counts.
Ending hunger in Gadab Hasaasa is possible.
The Emergency Food Hampers Program, which began as our first community project, is now GHWRA’s annual cornerstone program, raising nearly $90,000 in the last three years alone, and distributing thousands of food hampers to vulnerable families in the region.
We’re also building a number of self-sustaining food access and food security projects, including:
a livestock distribution program
an urban gardening project, and
a women’s microfinance grant initiative
GHWRA is women-led and volunteer run.
What began as a handful of Oromo women discussing food insecurity in Gadab Hasaasa has slowly grown into a movement of its own.
Our work is anchored by several teams to ensure the most vulnerable in Gadab Hasaasa are at the centre of our efforts: a steering committee in the Oromo diaspora, a community outreach team in Gadab Hasaasa, a council of elders, a team of frontline volunteers… and you, our donors, who help make this work possible!
Donate today to give the gift of food.
We’re a women-led, volunteer-run charity with the goal of ending hunger in Gadab Hasaasa.
Your support would be utterly invaluable as we push towards our goal, particularly given the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the current global spike in food prices, and continuing realities of political unrest in Ethiopia.
